Adderall has grown in popularity on college campuses

The illegal use of Adderall has grown in popularity on college campuses throughout the country. Adderall use is increased during exam periods. The drug is used to help increase attention and decrease impulsiveness and hyperactivity in patients with ADHD. Many college students who do not have ADHD use the drug while studying for exams.
“A significant percentage of students report using the drug because they believe it will help them stay awake and focused….whether or not it improves performance is a different issue,” said Susan Foster, vice president and director of policy research for the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.
