Addiction Research: Nurturing Mothers May Help Children Resist Drugs

New Addiction Research

A new addiction research study of laboratory rats from Duke University and the University of Adelaide in Australia finds that an attentive and nurturing mother may be able to help her children better resist the temptations of drug use later in life.

The research study found that high-touch mothering increased the brain’s production of a molecule in the immune system, called Interleukin-10, leaving the laboratory rats better able to resist the temptation of a dose of morphine much later in life.

The researchers recognize that this connection will have to be further explored.
