Christian Group Helps Addicts Find Hope

George Keams finds hope and support in helping people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. He conquered his alcohol addiction almost 25 years ago and thanks Jesus Christ for his new life. “I was born again in a rehab center in Salt Lake City,” said Keams. Keams spends his Friday nights at Victory Baptist Church in Orem, Utah, mentoring to others who want to find strength in Christ’s love. Earlier this year, the church started weekly Reformers Unanimous meetings. Reformers Unanimous is a national gorup based in Illinois which promotes a Jesus Christ-centered addiction recovery program with roots in the Bible. Reformers Unanimous is designed to help people grow spiritually while in recovery. Steve Lozeau is grateful to the program. Lozeau is a 33 year-old married father of four who credits Reformers Unanimous for helping him with his addiction to methamphetamine. He believes that the beauty of the RU program is that is completely accepting of every person. “You’re allowed to grow spiritually and not labeled with problems. It’s not that mentality of once an addict, always an addict.” The weekly meetings at Victory Baptist Church are free, but people are asked to pay a small amount for materials. “People need to understand that God loves them, that’s how they heal on the inside.”
