Jessica Heller started doing Holy Yoga to combine her Christian faith with the health benefits of yoga.
“It brought in a spiritual element that aligned with my personal belief system and resonated so much more deeply,” said Heller.
Millions of Americans practice yoga and enjoy its mental and physical benefits, but some devout Christians are uncomfortable with yoga’s Eastern roots and its connection with the Hindu religion. Holy Yoga, Yoga for Christians, Scripture Yoga and Praise Moves all combine the benefits of yoga together with the Christian faith. Most classes begin with a Bible scripture which ties the theme of that day’s class together.
“We can absolutely service the people who are afraid of yoga because they thought yoga was incompatible with Christ,” said Brooke Boon, the founder of Holy Yoga.
