Common Questions About Christian Rehab and Faith-Based Recovery Programs

Christian rehab

Christianity has always been a widespread religion, but it’s especially prominent in the United States. In fact, the U.S. has the largest Christian population in the world, with more than 240 million (62%) of the people reportedly belonging to a church congregation. Additionally, that there are 23.5 million people (roughly 7%) that struggle with a substance use disorder, or addiction. Many of these individuals are people of faith. And, unfortunately, less than 10% of those with addictions ever receive treatment— or a second chance. This is one of the many reasons why faith-based addiction recovery, or Christian rehab, plays such a vital role in the recovery industry and community. It allows those who are struggling to regain both their sobriety and their faith.

What Are the Effects of Addiction on Christian Life?

Breaking free from the struggles of addiction can be extremely difficult. What may have started out as casual drinking or recreational drug use can turn into addiction before you know it. And, when someone becomes addicted to drugs or alcohol, every area of his or her life suffers. After all, addiction is less an issue of morality and more an issue of mental health. In fact, addictions are called substance use disorders because that is precisely what they are— disorders. Addiction changes brain chemistry and brings out thoughts or behaviors that would otherwise be uncharacteristic of the person affected. This is especially true for Christian addicts since, oftentimes, they also struggle with their faith while going to great lengths to feed their addictions. In a way, drugs and alcohol become the new God for Christian addicts.

Can’t I Get Sober Through Faith Alone?

There are a lot of reasons why someone struggling with addiction may not come forward for help right away. For Christians, they may be under the impression that their faith in God would or should be enough to heal them. While faith does play a sizable role in getting and staying sober, denying treatment will only do you harm. Your chances of obtaining sobriety are much higher if you seek professional treatment as compared to trying to quit on your own. Kicking any kind of addiction without any kind of medical or psychological intervention could result in a wide variety of severe withdrawal symptoms and potential health complications. These typically include:

  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Aggression
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Suicidal thoughts

While these withdrawal symptoms are frequently seen in people who attempt to get sober without help, the effects that you experience will depend entirely on you, your addiction, your substance of choice, and a variety of other factors unique to you. If you’re a Christian struggling with addiction, the best way to overcome it is by getting treatment that will heal both your body and your spirit. So, you’ll need to find a rehabilitation facility that can provide you with the resources and care you’ll need to get and stay sober.

Does Christian Rehab Work?

Even though faith is widespread in this country, many people seem to question its relevance when it comes to medical endeavors like addiction recovery. However, faith-based addiction recovery, or Christian rehab, is just as effective as traditional treatment methods. In fact, Christian rehab is often part of a larger picture.

Christian addiction treatment allows you to work on overcoming addiction while also strengthening your faith and spirituality. Part of Christianity’s prevalence can be attributed to its universality; it’s a faith that, like many others, carries a lot of fundamental truths that encourage people to live their best possible lives. So, in conjunction with other forms of addiction treatment, faith-based rehab is one of the best ways for anyone to get and stay sober— not just people of the Christian faith. It is possible for anyone to overcome addiction with the right treatment, and for many, it includes faith-based programs.

How Do I Know If I’m Ready to Get Help?

It can be difficult to admit that you have a problem, especially when it comes to addiction. Even if you recognize that you have a problem, you may still have trouble seeking help for it. After all, know that you have a problem and addressing it are two different things. It’s even more complicated when addiction compromises your faith. However, it’s important to remember that you’ll be ready for help as soon as you’re ready for positive change. The first step is coming to terms with the fact that you need help. From there, it’s about finding the right program to help you get back on the path that God laid out for you.

Is Christian Rehab Really the Best Choice for Me?

Finding the right treatment facility may be easier said than done, but once you realize that you need help, it’s essential. Once you choose to ask for professional help, finding the right addiction programs is just as crucial as finding the right treatment facility— and a good Christian recovery program can help you in many ways.

Most Christian rehabs offer many of the same programs and have many of the same benefits as any other credible rehab. However, with Christian rehab, you have the added bonus of faith-based healing to address all of your spiritual health needs. There are a wide variety of addiction treatment programs and services available that will allow you to focus on beating your addiction while also renewing and strengthening your faith in the Lord. So, not only will you work with medical professionals and counselors to get sober, but you’ll also be able to renew and strengthen your faith during the recovery process.

How Can Christian Recovery Programs Help Me Get Sober?

No person faces the same struggles in addiction. This is why finding the right recovery programs is so important. With the right guidance, therapy, and peer support, you’ll see success in the fight against your addiction. Renewing your faith and trusting that the Lord is with you can provide you with additional support to achieve sobriety. Christian rehab offers a way for you to not only work on beating your addiction, but also gives you the chance to strengthen your faith and become one with God. And it doesn’t end there.

Going to rehab and getting sober is only the first of many steps on your recovery journey. Learning how to avoid people, places, or situations that could lead to relapse is very important. It’s also important to learn positive ways to cope when you come into contact with any triggers. Once you’re finished with faith-based treatment, you’ll be able to use outpatient services to help you with both of these things, as well as with your reintegration into society as a sober individual.

How Can Faith-Based Continued Care Help Me Stay Sober?

Many people believe that getting sober is the hardest part of overcoming an addiction. In reality, the biggest challenge is probably staying sober once treatment is complete. In fact, the vast majority of people struggle with sobriety during early recovery. This is because staying sober can be next to impossible if you don’t adjust your habits during the recovery process. After all, old habits die hard, and sobriety amounts to more than abstinence. With continued support from professionals and peers alike, you’ll not only get sober, but you’ll also learn how to:

  • Avoid your triggers
  • Navigate tricky situations
  • Ignore enablers and poor influencers
  • Turn to God for extra support and guidance

Without post-treatment care, you likely won’t have the tools you need to maintain your sobriety once you’ve left rehab.

  1. Angela Gonzalez says:

    Hello,
I have been praying and seeking help and came across your website. I am looking into this treatment center to see if this program would help my brother. He is a drug addict and has wanted help but doesn’t know where to go. He doesn’t have any money or insurance. He is living on the streets. What is the cost of treatment for him? I don’t know if I can afford to pay for it, but I would like to see if it is affordable. Thank you for your time.
    Respectfully,
    Angela Gonzalez

  2. Raymond says:

I have a cousin/godchild named Christian who I was just notified by his brother that he has sunk into a terrible alcoholic hole. He has been arrested for drunken antics and needs help. The problem is that he does not have any insurance which I know is usually a necessity in these types of treatments. It is my understanding that he is so bad that he would need an impatient treatment.
I am looking for guidance and suggestions to save this young mans life. Thank you
