A motel in downtown Delray Beach hopes to morph into a drug rehab center, despite some resistance from the community. “There’s a void in services between here and Lake Worth. There’s a gap and need that needs to be filled,” said Harold Jonas, the owner of the Delray Inn. Jonas believes that the explosion of prescription drug addiction supports the need for another facility that will help those struggling with addiction. “Now they can’t access the pill mills, if they’re out of state or local, where are they going to go?” asked Jonas. This drug rehab facility may be the last to open in downtown Delray Beach due to an ordinance passed last month saying rehabs can only open near the Delray Medical Center. The city cannot block Jonas because he obtained a permit before the ordinance was passed.
