The Canadian province of Manitoba has the first treatment center in the country where women struggling with addiction can stay with their children. The Charis Centre has been open for a year in Winnipeg.
“It’s a Christian addictions program,” said Len McKelvey, public relations manager for the Charis Centre. “There’s nothing like it anywhere in Manitoba.”
The centre has space for 60 women and 120 children. At the moment, 20 women and five children are in the centre. It allows the mothers to be with their children while they are getting clean and healthy.
