Gardening Program Helps Teenagers In Drug Rehab

Gardening has become an unlikely therapeutic addition to drug rehab for teenagers in treatment at The Camp Recovery Center’s Meadow Lodge in California. The Parent Appreciation Garden is comprised of donated plants. Parents donate a plant in honor of their teenagers work in the drug treatment program. The teens then care for and harvest the fruits, vegetables and herbs as a part of their treatment program.  “This garden gives parents the opportunity to show appreciation for their child and gives the adolescents a chance to leave behind a piece of themselves for future residents to enjoy,” said Wendy Nolen, a case manager at The Camp. “Our hope is that this concept of giving back will continue to guide them through their recovery.”
