A former bookkeeper of the Home of Grace, a Christian drug and alcohol recovery program in Pascagoula, Mississippi, was sentenced to two years of house arrest. Barbara Hamil Wassman admitted that she stole almost $200,000 from her former employer. Jackson County Circuit Judge Dale Harkey sentenced Wassman to eight years of post-release supervision as well.
Wassman also served as an admissions clerk for Home of Grace. The judge ordered her to pay $200,751 in restitution, which includes the amount of embezzled funds plus a $1,000 fine and court costs. The staff at Home of Grace noticed discrepancies in Wassman’s bookkeeping about a month prior to her termination of employment.
