New Hope Corps Helps Men Through Faith

The New Hope Corps is helping men in Homestead conquer their addictions to drugs and alcohol. The center says it is the only state-licensed addiction treatment center for men in southern Miami-Dade County. “Because I’m here, I’ve learned different coping skills, instead of going out and getting high,” said Arjan Gupta. “In my addiction, I didn’t live by any guidelines. I thought I was going to live forever. That’s why this place is important, to know that there’s a way to change.” The faith-based addiction treatment center receives its money through grants from community organizations. The center has 54 beds and a waiting list. Clients participate in prayer groups and daily Bible studies. “We’re successful in what we do and our funding sources have been able to see that we’re successful,” said Assistant Executive Director Stephen Alvarez. “As a result of that, we’ve been able to maintain our funding and little by little, we have been able to see additional funding.”
