While no one ever sets out to be addicted to drugs or alcohol, millions of people in the United States, including Christians are struggling with substance abuse. How does a Christian become an addict?
Mild-altering substances can change a person’s heart and cause them to act illogically.
Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick.”
Within our heart lays our natural God-given emotions, when individuals becomes chemically dependent they no longer control their heart. Prior to addiction, individuals place a high priority on natural things such as family and friends. Once a person becomes addicted, they will choose alcohol or drugs over their loved ones.
The heart must be repaired to start the recovery process. In order to do this, addicts must listen to God’s Word. A faith-based treatment program can help Christians build a sober life.
