Identifying Young People With Alcohol Problems

A three question short survey about alcohol consumption helps to identify young people with alcohol related problems.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends pediatricians routinely screening adolescents for alcohol and drug use during well checkups. A new study adapted existing tools designed to screen adults for alcohol abuse or for abuse of any substance to screen for alcohol problems among young people.

It is hoped that identifying youth will help to reduce the likelihood of future alcohol abuse and binge drinking.
