The state of Illinois will receive a grant worth $13.1 million dollars to allow for more choices for more than 7,000 people seeking treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. The “Access to Recovery” Illinois grant will be monitored by the Department of Human Services. The program is funded by the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The program pays for vouchers for treatment, including at faith-based and community-based programs. The Department of Human Services will work with the Illinois National Guard to match returning military personnel with available treatment programs throughout the state.
Since the program’s inception in Illinois in 2004, it has helped more than 15,000 people begin a new, sober life.
