Jane Lynch: Cough Medicine Abuse
Actress Jane Lynch, best known for her acerbic role as gym teacher on TV’s “Glee”, once used cough medicine as she tried to stay sober after years of abusing alcohol. Lynch is now sober and writes about her addiction to alcohol in her new book, Happy Accidents, due to be published in early September. “I found myself eating about a gallon of chocolate ice cream daily to replace the copious amounts of sugar my body was used to from the daily beer intake…I did, however, continue my habit of taking NyQuil before bed. Though no longer drinking Miller Lite, I was still in need of something to soothe me,” Lynch writes in the book. Lynch continued relying on NyQuil for nearly another year while she starred in a New York production of The Real Live Brady Bunch. Lynch used the NyQuil to grab hours of sleep in her theatre dressing room, but soon realized she needed help for her addiction. She has now been sober for years and will soon host the Emmy Awards on television.
