Texas Rangers star outfielder Josh Hamilton is a recovering alcohol and drug addict, but the 30-year-old admitted at a recent press conference to having several drinks with friends at two restaurants in Dallas.
“I had a weak moment on Monday night in Dallas,” Hamilton said. “Once I do drink I can be very deceptive, very sneaky in a lot of ways.”
It is the second lapse in recovery by Hamilton. He had been suspended from baseball for more than three years for drug and alcohol abuse when he was on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays team.
“After this happens and praying about it, I cannot take a break from my recovery. My recovery is Christ. My recovery is an everyday process, because when I take that one day off, it leaves me open for that moment of weakness and it’s always been that way.”
