Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV) says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
There are many responsibilities in our daily life that DISTRACT us… no matter what they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
There are many emotions we have which can cause DISCONTENT… no matter what they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
There are many situations that can DISCOURAGE us… no matter what they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
We have many weaknesses that can lead to DESPAIR… no matter what they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
There are many lies that can lead us back to DENIAL… no matter what they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
There are many people that can lead us into DISCORD… no matter who they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
There are many “false teachers” that lead us to DISILLUSIONMENT and DESERTION… no matter who they are, KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS!
The things listed above that can lead us away from recovery and God (distraction, discontentment, discouragement, despair, denial, discord, disillusionment and desertion) all begin with the letter “D.” So does the places that they intend to lead us if we follow them (DISSIPATION, DESOLATION, DISASTER, DEVASTATION, DEATH and DESTRUCTION) and the one ultimately at work against us – the “devil.”
Throughout all these obstacles and struggles, if we stay intimately DEVOTED and resolutely OBEDIENT to our SAVIOR, God will TRANSFORM the situation (that the devil meant for our DESTRUCTION) into GROWTH of our CHARACTER and SOUL. He will “work in ALL things for our greater good…”
So, no matter what comes at us in life, let us always encourage each other to “KEEP OUR EYES FIXED ON JESUS, THE PIONEER AND PERFECTER OF OUR FAITH!”
