Michael W. Smith is one of the most respected Christian music artists. He has won numerous awards and sold more than $15 million dollars of CDs, but Smith once struggled with drug addiction. Smith’s career spans more than 30 years, but he recalls knowing early on that Christian music would be his saving grace in life.
“God had a call on my life and music was supposed to be a part of that,” said Smith.
Smith, 53, came to Nashville at the age of 15, and was quickly trapped by drugs. Once he admitted his addiction and accepted Christ, success soon followed. Smith credits God for his career and his health. He has been clean and sober for many years.
“I never could have orchestrated any of this. God is faithful.”
