New Pain Drug
A New Jersey based drug company has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for a new pain drug that will relieve post-surgical pain. The drug, Exparel, may limit the use of opioids in a post-surgical setting.
Opioids are a class of drugs that includes oxycodone, morphine and fentanyl. These drugs are powerful, highly addictive and can result in abuse. Exparel contains a commonly used local pain reliever called bupivacaine, which is released using the company’s unique drug delivery technology called DepoFoam.
