Drug Treatment Admissions
A new report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration highlights a shocking 430 percent increase in the treatment of prescription drug addiction over the past ten years.
The increase was seen across the United States, but admissions to treatment facilities was the highest in Maine, Vermont, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Arkansas, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
The report learned that although fewer people in the country are requiring treatment for heroin, cocaine and alcohol abuse, admissions connected to marijuana have experienced a 33 percent increase. Admissions for the treatment of crystal methamphetamine abuse spiked in the years between 1999 and 2005, but have dropped ever since that time.
