Origins of Faith-Based Recovery

When many people think of the 12 Steps, they immediately think of Alcoholics Anonymous. But what are the origins of faith-based recovery? The 12 Steps traces its origins back to the first half of the 20th century, but in fact, faith-based addiction recovery has its roots in the Christian revivalist movements of 19th century America. Regardless of its origins, the 12 Steps are an important part of the recovery community to this day. The idea of surrendering your addiction, your sins and your weaknesses to a higher power is not exclusive to Alcoholics Anonymous, and has continued to help people on their journey to sobriety.
