Former champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya has admitted in a television interview that his addictions to cocaine and alcohol led to a temporary separation from his wife, as well as thoughts of despair and suicide. “Rock bottom was recently. Within a couple of years, just thinking if my life was even worth it,” De La Hoya said. “I don’t have the strength, I don’t have the courage to take my own life but I was thinking about it.” De La Hoya finally received treatment for his addictions and has now been clean and sober for three months. He hopes that telling his story of addiction will help others gather the courage to seek help and heal their pain.
