Prescribing Pain Pills
A Florida physician was sentenced to more than six years in prison for writing prescriptions for millions of pain pills.
Beau Boshers pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy. Prosecutors said Boshers wrote prescriptions for approximately 3.6 million oxycodone and other painkillers without verifying the patients’ medical need for the drugs.
Boshers is among 13 physicians and 32 people overall charged in Operation Oxy Alley, which targeted pill mills in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Investigators said the four pain clinics distributed some 20 million oxycodone pills and raked in $40 million dollars between 2008 and 2010.
