The Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to allow Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches to convert a vacant Lake Worth hotel and restaurant into a 165-bed substance abuse treatment center.
Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches has operated substance abuse treatment centers in Palm Beach County for almost 15 years. The decision came despite objections from dozens of nearby residents who argued that the treatment center would bring crime to their neighborhood. The commissioners disagreed.
“I think it is in the best interest and provides the most security and buffering that we can get today,” said Commissioner Paulette Burdick.
