Blake McGrath: Professional Dancer Finds Jesus Instead of Drugs

Blake McGrath has a talent that is undoubtedly a gift from God. But the dancer and judge on the Canadian version of the popular show So You Think You Can Dance almost lost it all to drug addiction. McGrath left Canada at 18 and moved to Los Angeles to try and make it as a professional dancer.

“Los Angeles was great for my career and where it went but I lost myself and who I was a person,” said McGrath. “I was doing drugs, I would hang out with the bad crowd. I just got into partying and it really took hold of me and that’s just not who I am,” said Blake McGrath.

McGrath, 26, made it to the top 6 dancers of the 2005 American season of So You Think You Can Dance, but increasing fame and success only fueled his addiction and downward spiral. At his lowest point, McGrath considered suicide. His literal saving grace was his decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior and become a Christian. From that decision, he was able to rebuild a healthy life for himself.

“If that didn’t happen, I’d still be the same person which is really scary and nothing would be happening in my life right now – my career would be going down the drain, my music wouldn’t be where it’s at, I wouldn’t have this story to tell how to help other people.”
