James Rivers, a recovering addict, has written a book of poetry called “Surrender” about his experience with drug and alcohol addiction and his new life of recovery, hope and faith.
“I have not had a drink in 17 years. I dabbled with drugs after my most recent divorce but have been clean since 2003, but I had gotten away from attending the meetings, and from God,” said Rivers.
Rivers hopes the book of 56 poems will inspire others struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. He also is thankful for his faith for helping him find strength after addiction.
“My goal is to get one [book] in every treatment center in America. I want to share with addicts and alcoholics that there is a fellowship of men and women who have found a new way to live without the use of drugs of any kind.”
