Roland Vandal has fought his way back from drug addiction. The Canadian boxer dropped out of the sport at age 13 and spent many low years addicted to drugs. Vandal’s rock bottom was in 2002 when he had a seizure after drinking a bottle of methadone. He nearly died from that experience.
“That was the wake up call. I haven’t touched a drop of drugs or alcohol since,” Vandal said.
Now Vandal has returned to boxing and at age 31, works as a coach and motivational speaker. He hopes that his experience with addiction will help others.
“Now I really believe it’s my duty to pay it forward.”
