R. Allen Stanford: Competency Questioned

A Houston judge has ordered R. Allen Stanford to receive treatment for a drug addiction that has contributed to his incompetency to stand trial. Stanford, a billionaire financier, is awaiting trial on charges he cheated investors of $7 million dollars in a Ponzi scheme. U.S. District Judge David Hittner ordered Stanford be sent for treatment for an addiction to anti-anxiety medication.

Three psychiatrists have previously testified about Stanford’s competency. The psychiatrists claimed Stanford’s drug addiction and a brain injury have affected his competency.
