Study Finds Yoga Helps Chronic Back Pain

More evidence that yoga is an effective treatment for treating chronic pain – a large scale study from England finds that yoga is better at treating chronic lower back pain than conventional, traditional medical treatment. Those who had chronic back pain and participated in a 12-week course of yoga received more relief than those who received standard medical care.

“Back pain is an extremely common and costly condition,” said Dr. David Togerson of the University of York. “Exercise treatment, although widely used and recommended, has only a small effect. Our results showed that yoga can provide both short- and long-term benefits to those suffering from chronic or recurrent back pain, without any serious side effects.”

Yoga has long been touted as an alternative treatment for chronic pain.
