Meditation and Recovery: The Practice of Meditation

Meditation and Recovery

Meditation plays an important role in drug treatment and recovery. The practice of meditation allows a person to enjoy a greater connection with inner spirituality. With meditation and recovery, those in recovery learn to embrace their feelings and understand the reasons for the substance abuse. They also learn what they need to do to maintain their sobriety.

Meditation encourages self awareness, which is a state of mind that is beneficial in drug treatment. The process of meditation, though inherently non religious, often opens up a person to experiencing their individual spirituality.

Regular meditation reduces stress, both internally and externally, while teaching the person in recovery how to react to external stressors and their environment. This focus plays an important role in strengthening the resolve to achieve long-term sobriety.
