Despite receiving insults and threats, a TV reporter from a Washington, D.C. station will go back in front of the cameras to uncover stories of underage drinking in her community.
WUSA reporter Andrea McCarren had been working on a series about underage drinking and drug use that began on Feb. 1. The stories, unfortunately, resulted in threats to McCarren’s children, both in person and on Facebook. This lead to WUSA news director Fred D’Ambrosi and McCarren to agree she should stay off the air for a week. McCarren let a colleague report her story twice to allow the fury to die down a bit.
“My kids were targeted. That’s where I drew the line,” McCarren said.
