Despite the inclement weather, this year’s Winning The Battle Over Addiction Conference, held Friday October 26, was a huge success. One hundred twenty people interested in Christian addiction recovery were in attendance. They packed Weyenberg Hall at Palm Beach Atlantic University for a day of fantastic speakers, who shared their insight on the 12 steps from a Christian perspective. Participants also enjoyed powerful testimonies from recovering addicts whose lives have been transformed by the 12 steps and Christ.
The day began with a welcome and worship by Pastor John Poitevent, Pastor Jay Boykin and the Christ Fellowship Worship Band.
Dr. Adam Bianchini discussed ministering to addicts and alcoholics. “If you work with addicts and alcoholics, you are in the deliverance ministry.”
Steve Arterburn, co-author of the Life Recovery Bible, discussed the 12 steps and Christianity. “I have never met an addict who didn’t sin or a sinner who wasn’t addicted to their sin.”
Dr. Dave Stoop followed Steve Arterburn. Dr. Stoop who co-authored The Life Recovery Bible with Mr. Arterburn, discussed alcoholism and the Bible. “You don’t have recovery without the spiritual and you don’t have the spiritual without Jesus.”
Dr. Phil Henry of Palm Beach Atlantic University and author of The Christian Therapist’s Notebook, discussed the 12 steps and their implementation in a Christian environment. “Addiction is like a train, just because you understand it doesn’t mean you can stop it.”
Pastor John Poitevent closed the conference with prayer and inspiring remarks.
Thank you to everyone who attended, our speakers, Palm Beach Atlantic University and the South Florida Association of Christian Counselors for being a part of this event.
