Holistic Therapies Aim to Heal the Whole Body
Drug and alcohol addiction damages your entire being. With the use of Gospel-focused ministries and these holistic therapies, we can help you work towards healing your whole body. We often recommend advanced holistic therapies to our patients to help ease the physical pain and mental stress you face.
Our Road to Freedom program is a Christian-based holistic program. That means we’ll include a Gospel-oriented recovery process alongside the holistic programs we offer within our program. It’s important to recognize that the term holistic focuses on whole-body treatment. In no way does this take away from our Christian-based values. Rather, these are treatment options that may not be the first line of medical treatment provided by a doctor. They still aim to provide whole-body healing by encouraging the natural healing process within your body.
Psalm 103:2-4 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.” Very much so, our holistic program focuses on enabling the healing process to happen.
What Is Our Holistic Approach?
Holistic therapies offered through the Road to Freedom program focus specifically on providing the body with support to enable it to heal in the proper manner. We do not use alternative medicine nor do we use illegal substances. We offer a medically controlled detox program to help patients to ease through the process of detoxing without the harmful, and often life-threatening, side effects that can occur. This medically controlled detox is a proven, safe way to remove drugs and alcohol toxicity from the body.
Our holistic approach enables our patients to work through this detox program safely while still making every treatment as comfortable as possible.
The Benefits of Holistic Therapy
When you work with your drug and addiction counselors at Road to Freedom, our doctors may recommend the use of holistic treatment. This compliments the 12-step and medical detox program that we offer but does not replace it. If you are prescribed holistic therapies, we highly encourage you to utilize them. The benefits of holistic therapy may include:
- Pain relief, feeling less pain from the detox process
- Promotion of relaxation, to help with mental anguish
- Help with sleeping better through therapy and detox
- Aid in controlling anxiety without the need for medications
- Reduction of cravings is very common with holistic treatment; you may not feel the need to utilize illegal substances
- Improved overall general wellness; you’ll feel better through the process and more likely to achieve your goals as a result
- Stimulated healing within your body without the use of pain medications
From a Christian standpoint, the holistic therapies we offer can also help you to regain trust in God, learn more about yourself, and help you to be more open to prayer, the Word, and overall healing.
Through this type of treatment, we aim to treat the whole person. This includes your physical body but also your spirit and your mind. Holistic therapies help us to reach all levels of healing to promote the best possible outcome for you.
Our Available Therapies
The following are some of the holistic therapies we offer to many of our patients in the Road to Freedom program. Our mission remains the same in that we are committed to our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Each of these programs maintains a Christian-forward approach for you.
With the aid of a licensed massage therapist, our therapeutic massage process can help to reduce pain from the physical aspects of the detox process. In addition, the stimulation of the circulatory system helps to speed up healing of your body’s soft tissues and muscles. Addiction detox can greatly tax the body and this can help you overcome some of the pain you feel. Massage therapy involves the use of pressure on the muscles and soft tissues of the body. You will feel less tension, better movement, and improved healing.
Many of our patients suffer from chronic pain. This pain is often due to an underlying cause, such as a misalignment of the spinal column or pinched nerves. Chiropractic care can improve this. We focus on making manual adjustments to the spinal column to relieve tension and pain. We use the Activator method, which can help with back pain, headaches, migraines, neck pain, and much more. You will also receive cold laser therapy to complement chiropractic care. This procedure allows for stimulation of healing of specific nerves and soft tissues, reduces inflammation, and offers pain relief.
A more advanced treatment, laser therapy uses a cold light laser. It focuses on a very specific area of the body where you may have pain. The light moves into those tissues and helps to trigger a biological reaction within your body’s cells. As a result, the natural immune system goes to work to reduce pain, reducing inflammation, and speed up the healing process. It is highly effective for patients struggling with chronic pain or acute pain from an injury.
Acupuncture is a treatment based on the movement of life force within the body. From a Christian standpoint, we understand that acupuncture helps to draw the body’s immune system to an area that is of specific concern, to help stimulate the healing process. We also understand that acupuncture can help to reduce many of the symptoms patients have during the healing and recovery process by encouraging stress relief. If selected as a treatment for you, acupuncture will be available through two options, cupping or traditional. In either form, it can help with withdrawal symptoms and chronic pain. Many patients see improvement in anxiety and stress as well, giving them less need to turn to addictive substances.
Christians do not believe in allowing an ill person to suffer. Relaxation therapy is not meant to make your pain disappear so you can forget what is occurring, but rather to help give you the tools you need to heal. This therapy focuses on vibroacoustic therapy or gentle vibrations, music, and biofeedback through a process called Heart Math. It can help you feel very relaxed both physically and mentally. This helps to soothe the mood in a natural way.
The toll of addiction can cause numerous parts of your body to simply suffer. Physical therapy is specific, customized exercise programs designed to improve your body’s movement and functionality. It can help improve your mobility and lessen pain.
From a Christian viewpoint, the goal is not just to improve the physical body, but also to give a person the tools necessary to achieve the best quality of life and meaning in life. To do that, you may need to improve your self-esteem. Yoga can help in that way as well. It provides a better mind-body-spirit connection. We focus on incorporating Christian beliefs into this type of healing process.
Your body cannot heal without proper nutrition and yet, many of the people who we see struggle significantly from nutritional deficiencies. You will work with our nutritionist to create a program that aims to give your body the ability to properly detoxify and stimulates its ability to heal.
Meditation and Mindfulness
As a key component of the Road to Freedom program, we encourage a great deal of meditation and mindfulness. We believe that you can heal and overcome your addiction if and when you are ready to accept the Gospel and Jesus’s calling. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free,” wrote Paul in Galatians 5:1. To achieve this, we must give ourselves the opportunity to connect with Jesus. Meditation and mindfulness can stimulate that.
These holistic treatments come alongside the medically detox program, counseling services, as well as pastoral care, prayer, and Bible study we offer. We’re committed to giving you the Christian supportive environment you need to ensure the whole body can heal including the physical body, the mind, and the spirit.
